Welcome to third trimester of your pregnancy!
We are glad to share some relevant pregnancy information with you !! 

Baby :

  • Baby with 2.4 pounds weight and 15.75 inches from head to toe, may be dreaming as brain waves show rapid eye movement sleep.
  • Eyelids start to open, lung branches are developing, folds and grooves of brain are developing and expanding. 
  • Baby also has added layers of fat and continuous hair growth.

Mom-to-be:

  • Your tummy extends well above your navel. 
  • Hardening and relaxing of the uterus, like a rehearsal for labor called Braxton Hicks contractions are felt as the baby grows.
  • Leg cramps, swelling of ankles and feet have increased.
  • Urination has increased as the uterus continues to push on your bladder.

Tip of the Week: 

  • Do not miss calcium and iron tablets. 
  • Take milk, fruits, green vegetables and other necessary food items recommended by your doctor, as good nutrition will make you strong. 
  • To avoid swelling in your feet, keep a stool under your legs and keep them raised as much as possible.
  • If swelling persists, put a pillow below your feet while sleeping.

Your pregnancy entering its third trimester !
We are glad to share some useful Pregnancy related information with you !! 

Baby:

  • Baby's hands have become active now.
  • To calm down and strengthen their cheek and jaw muscles, babies suck their thumbs.
  • Baby looks as if fully grown. Though it will grow more long and stout till delivery.
  • Baby has the ability to cry now.
  • Immune system, lungs and liver are fully developed but childbirth now will not have a good chance of the baby to survive.
  • Baby starts to open and close eyes in 27th and 28th week.
  • A regular wake and sleep cycle is being maintained by the baby now. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Now you can feel your baby's kicks quite a lot as if your belly is busy in aerobic workouts.
  •  Balance and motility will be affected as your tummy increases. 

Tip of the Week:

  • You need more loose maternity dresses now.

Me and my Baby at 26th week

Baby :

  • Your baby can hear completely as it is fully developed.
  • With response to hearing, baby's pulse rate increases.
  • Movements will be synchronized into rhythm to music.
  • Lungs of the baby are still immature.
  • Baby's brain waves pattern are similar to that of a full term newborn. It also sleeps and wakes up in a particular pattern.
  • Now the baby's eyes will open and blink after so many days of being sealed.
  • Babies may have blue or gray-blue eyes or brown or dark eyes at birth (which may change color in the first year of life). 
  • Baby boy's testicles start to descent into his scrotum.

Mom-to-be:

  • Enjoy your baby's constant movements.
  • Now the gain of weight will be about 1 pound per week. 
  • The pressure of the baby on your stomach may cause indigestion and heartburn. 
  • There could be some discomfort in the ribcage as baby is growing.

Tip of the Week: 

  • You may start checking child care facilities in your area if you may like to return to work after child birth.

Me and my Baby at 25th week

"Include your partner, other family members and friends in your pregnancy, it helps them understand what you are going through so they can be more understanding and supportive."

Baby:

  • Transparency of the skin is replaced by opaqueness in the baby, body is still being covered with folds.
  • Stethoscope helps to listen to the heartbeat of the baby. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Your uterus is growing upward, so your tummy might get bigger.
  • Your doctor can feel where is the baby's head lying.
  • Doctor may guide your hand and make you feel the baby's head but baby is rotating and has no fixed position.
  • You may sometimes feel heart burn. This time due to oesophageal reflux. If it is bothering you, ask your doctor to give you some antacids.
  • Eat smaller frequent meals avoiding spices and fatty foods. 

Tip of the Week:

  • Having haemorrhoids is common in this trimester.
  • To soothe hemorrhoids, you can apply soothing creams after consulting your doctor or try a sitz bath (soaking your bottom in shallow warm water).

"Enjoy this time. Now you will become round, fat and chubby and you will get all the attention of your hubby"

Baby :

  • Production of White blood cells has started in the baby's body, which will help it fight with the disease and infection. 
  • Baby may respond to your touch or sounds.
  • Baby hiccups are more prominent now.
  • Lungs will be developed to be able to produce surfactant, which is a substance that keeps the air sacs in our lungs from collapsing and sticking together when we exhale, allowing us to breathe properly.
  • Premature babies find it difficult to breathe because these cells have not yet developed completely. 

Mom-to-be:

  • You will gain more weight this month. 
  • Now this is the time when your test for blood sugar levels will be repeated. Other blood / urine examinations are usual.

Tip of the Week: 

  • Baby's heartbeat can be heard by putting an ear to your abdomen.

Me and my Baby at 23rd week

Baby:

  • Skin is still loosened, giving baby a wrinkled appearance but fat is beginning to accumulate on baby's body.
  • Fine hair, called lanugo, darkens.
  • Similar appearance as on birth has started developing. 

Mom-to-be:

  • A lot of weight has been gained by you.
  • Vaginal secretions, clear to yellowish with faint smell can be noticed. Consult with doctor if there is something unusual with the color / odor, for an infection.
  • Do you suffer from back ache? Lying down, getting massages, and applying a heating pad or hot water bottle to the area can help. 

Tip of the Week:

  • Have you noted down what things you want to ask from your gynecologist?
  • Dryness and itching comes as the skin stretches. Keeping it moist with suitable lotions or creams can help.
  • Are you drinking enough water?
  • Make fresh vegetable juice, fruit juice and drink. Limit your cups of coffee, tea and soda as it can dehydrate you.
  • Take channa (for proteins) and jaggery frequently in to prevent headaches, uterine cramping and urinary tract infections.
  • Common problems encountered by the mom-to-be during this phase:
  1. headaches
  2. uterine cramps
  3. urinary tract infections
  4. swelling

Baby :

  • Stronger muscles and eyelids and eyebrows are developing day by day.
  • Tongue has got its function of developing taste buds now.
  • Baby can feel the touch as the brain and nerve endings are formed.
  • Baby moves a lot and responds to voices. Skin is yet wrinkled due to less weight gain.
  • Distinct lips are formed. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Your tummy has grown more.
  • No more morning sickness now. 

Tip of the Week: 

  • Are you taking calcium regularly ? 
  • Have you still not gained weight ?
  • Add cheese /paneer to your diet. This calcium rich diet will reduce cramps of leg and foot also. 
  • More calcium and potassium should be taken to prevent cramps.
  • Milk should be regularly taken, if possible at bedtime and snacks should include potassium-rich foods.
  • Leg cramps can be cured by exercise like flexing toes back toward your face and keeping your leg straight.

"Pregnancy is getting company inside one's skin."

Baby:

  • To keep itself warm, baby starts accumulating fat.
  • With slowing growth rate, organs are still maturing.
  • Oil glands of the baby makes a  waxy film, called the vernix caseosa, covering the skin to keep it supple in the amniotic fluid.
  • Formation of buds for permanent teeth starts.
  • After so many weeks of baby's liver and spleen work out for production of blood cells, now bone marrow will follow up the responsibility in the third trimester and after birth.
  • Spleen stops production of blood cells by 30th week and the liver will stop a few weeks before birth.
  • Baby girl has a fully formed vagina but will continue to develop until her birth. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Now you're starting to show, you can feel your baby up to half and above your belly.
  • Take rest a couple of times in a day if you start observing that your lower legs and feet swell. 

Tip of the Week:

  • You can join antenatal classes now.
  • Wash your face twice at least as skin is oily.
  • Have lots of water during the day, also unsweetened cranberry juice regularly.
  • Clean and wipe from front to back after urination.
  • If you are sexually active these days, urinating is must before and after intercourse.
  • Don't wear tight fitted clothes.
  • Cotton inner wears are most comfortable during this period.

Baby :

  • The 9 ounces and 5.6-6.4 inches fetus can hear voices now. 
  • Your voice, heart and your stomach growling, as well as sounds outside your body are all perceptible to him/her now.
  • It has the capacity of covering its ears with hands, to protect loud sound from coming in.
  • Movements are more frequent now, including twisting, turning, wriggling, punching and kicking. 
  • Skin thickens and develops layers under vernix.
  • Hair and nails continue to grow.
  • Meconium, a dark green or black sticky substance is being produced, which may sometimes be passed by the babies in the uterus or during labor. 
  • Meconium constitutes of cell loss, swallowed amniotic fluid and digestive secretions. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Now your tummy is full up to your navel.

Tip of the Week: 

  • Consult doctor if any burning in urine. 
  • Take enough water and fluids.
  • Do not worry, you may perspire more than before because thyroid gland is active.
  • Take good posture so that you have less backache. 
  • Sit with a small stool to keep your legs on.
  • Don't stand for long periods. 
  • Keep a pillow under your waist while sleeping.
  • Production of hemoglobin in baby is assisted by your increased iron - which prevents anemia, low birth weight, and premature delivery in babies. 
  • Take 27 to 30 mg of iron daily during your pregnancy.
  • Take lots of milk, cheese or paneer and apples. 
  • Take special care of your diet. You need more iron. You can take raisins, gur or jaggery to increase natural iron intake.

Me and my Baby at 19th week

"A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart till the day you die."

Baby:

  • Your baby is 5.2-6 inches in length and weighs 7 ounces.
  • Skin is developing and is transparent, appears red as blood vessels are visible through skin.
  • Development of a creamy white protective coating, vernix caseosa prevents scratching or chapping of the baby's skin. This cheesy covering may be present over the premature babies at delivery.
  • Senses related brain parts are getting specialized. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Have you taken your iron and calcium pills?
  • Mid-pregnancy aches and pains start by now as the baby grows inside you. Ache in lower abdomen, heartburn, dizziness, constipation, leg cramps, mild swelling of ankles and feet, and a backache are all that proceed.
  • Tiny, temporary red marks, spider nevi on your face, shoulders and arms are caused due to dilated blood vessels.

Tip of the Week:

  • Take rest for about 2 hours in day time and try to lie down more on your left side.
