We are glad to share some relevant pregnancy information with you !! 
Baby :

  • The 9 ounces and 5.6-6.4 inches fetus can hear voices now. 
  • Your voice, heart and your stomach growling, as well as sounds outside your body are all perceptible to him/her now.
  • It has the capacity of covering its ears with hands, to protect loud sound from coming in.
  • Movements are more frequent now, including twisting, turning, wriggling, punching and kicking. 
  • Skin thickens and develops layers under vernix.
  • Hair and nails continue to grow.
  • Meconium, a dark green or black sticky substance is being produced, which may sometimes be passed by the babies in the uterus or during labor. 
  • Meconium constitutes of cell loss, swallowed amniotic fluid and digestive secretions. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Now your tummy is full up to your navel.

Tip of the Week: 

  • Consult doctor if any burning in urine. 
  • Take enough water and fluids.
  • Do not worry, you may perspire more than before because thyroid gland is active.
  • Take good posture so that you have less backache. 
  • Sit with a small stool to keep your legs on.
  • Don't stand for long periods. 
  • Keep a pillow under your waist while sleeping.
  • Production of hemoglobin in baby is assisted by your increased iron - which prevents anemia, low birth weight, and premature delivery in babies. 
  • Take 27 to 30 mg of iron daily during your pregnancy.
  • Take lots of milk, cheese or paneer and apples. 
  • Take special care of your diet. You need more iron. You can take raisins, gur or jaggery to increase natural iron intake.

Baby:

  • Your baby is 5.2-6 inches in length and weighs 7 ounces.
  • Skin is developing and is transparent, appears red as blood vessels are visible through skin.
  • Development of a creamy white protective coating, vernix caseosa prevents scratching or chapping of the baby's skin. This cheesy covering may be present over the premature babies at delivery.
  • Senses related brain parts are getting specialized. 

Mom-to-be:

  • Have you taken your iron and calcium pills?
  • Mid-pregnancy aches and pains start by now as the baby grows inside you. Ache in lower abdomen, heartburn, dizziness, constipation, leg cramps, mild swelling of ankles and feet, and a backache are all that proceed.
  • Tiny, temporary red marks, spider nevi on your face, shoulders and arms are caused due to dilated blood vessels.

Tip of the Week:

  • Take rest for about 2 hours in day time and try to lie down more on your left side.

Baby :

  • The baby weighs 5.25 ounces and measures 5-5.6 inches from crown to rump. 
  • Reflexes are increasing with time as rapid growth decreases on the other hand
  • Baby can yawn, stretch and make facial expressions, even frowning is done !
  • Development of taste buds have started as it can distinguish between sweet and bitter.
  • Sucking of lips, swallowing and getting hiccups are new additions to the development of the baby.
  • Sensitivity to light is the feature of the baby's retina, so avoid beaming bright light to your abdomen as baby will move from its position to protect its eyes.
  • Nerves are being protected by a sheath - myelin which starts to form now and continues to form until your baby?s first birthday. 
  • Reproductive organs, i.e. fallopian tubes and uterus have taken their correct position in your baby girl and your baby boy's genitals would be noticed on your next ultrasound.

Mom-to-be:

  • Your abdomen can probably be felt just below your navel. 
  • You will start feeling baby movements by now.

Baby:

  • Baby is still tiny, as it weighs 4.9 ounces and measures 5.1 inches.
  • Accommodation of baby is done by the growing placenta which nourishes the fetus with nutrients and oxygen and removes wastes.
  • Baby's heat production and metabolism is helped by the fat which starts to form.
  • Exhalation of amniotic fluid has been started by the lungs.
  • Various systems like urinary and circulatory system have started working.
  • The gaps in between the head, eyebrows and eyelashes are being filled out by hairs.
  • Umbilical cord lengthens, thickens and strengthens with time.
  • Ears have been fully formed and placed on the correct position, enabling the baby with sense of hearing. 

Mom-to-Be:

  • You have a bulging tummy now.
  • Now you can feel your baby easily when you stand.
  • Uterus has been shifted backwards to your spine.
  • You may gain up to 5-10 pounds of weight, which is quite a normal gain.
  • You will feel like having something to munch in very short intervals.
  • Now take more milk products, green vegetables and fruits. 

Tip of the Week:

  • Be careful while changing your position from sitting to standing to avoid feeling dizzy.
  • Try to keep your leg up on some lower stool.

Baby:

  • Baby's heartbeat is now audible at doctor's place.
  • Baby is developing slowly in size measuring 4.7 inches and weighing about 3.9 ounces.
  • Erection of head is now another capability of your baby.
  • Nervous system has started working by now.
  • Well-defined fingers and toes, formed eyelids, eyebrows and eyelashes, denser teeth and bones are the repercussions of this week.
  • Activities like sucking thumb, yawning, stretching and making faces are been taken up by the baby now.
  • Fully developed reproductive organs and genitals show that proper development is taking place.
  • Functioning of complicated systems like urinary and circulatory system starts.
  • Around 25 quarts of blood is being pumped by the baby's heart regularly.

 Mom-to-be:

  • Mostly you need monthly check-up up to seventh month but if need it can be more.
  • Quickening, i.e. feel of baby moving begins which gives a feeling of a gas bubble or subtle flutter in the abdomen.
  • Body changes are bound to happen in pregnancy.
  • More blood circulation and hormones making oil glands will make your face glow and shine, which is commonly called as ?pregnancy glow?.
  • Leg veins prominence and the support to the growing baby requires increase in blood volume of the mother.

Tip of the Week:

  • Start wearing support stockings, put your feet up when you can and exercise for improving blood flow in your leg veins.
  • Oiliness on the skin can be cleaned with a oil free cleanser.

Vaccination

  • Tetanus Toxide - 1st dose

Me and my Baby at 15th week

Mom To Be:

  • Your baby has grown so uterus can probably be felt about 3 to 4 inches below your navel. 
  • Soon within the next 5 weeks your doctor may ask you to go for a blood test called the - Quadruple marker screening ( or Quad screen ) test which helps to figure out the possibility of Down syndrome. 
  • Also within 18 weeks you may also be asked for amniocentesis, in this test a small sample of amniotic fluid is withdrawn by an ultrasound-guided needle. 

Baby :

  • Your baby’s skin has become lucid, due to which the blood vessels become evident. 
  • This week the bones are getting harder, eyebrows and hair on the head have also started growing. 
  • And the baby may even be sucking his thumb. 
  • There is development of muscles and baby will make a lot of movement of his/her head, mouth, wrist, hands & legs. 

Tips:

  • For more appropriate circulation, you may start sleeping on your left side. 
  • Aorta and inferior vena cava provide blood supply to your lower body and the baby, so avoid sleeping on your back as uterus tends to put pressure on them. 
  • You should also avoid sleeping on stomach as it causes added pressure on the uterus. 
  • Later stages of pregnancy can also make it more difficult to breathe. There are pregnancy pillows available in the market, which you may tuck in behind you and between your legs.

Vaccination :

  • Ask your doctor if you need any.

Mom To Be:

  • Use maternity or loose clothes.
  • Take high fibre diet as constipation might bother you.
  • If you feel itching in your body remember not to  scratch and consult your doctor if itching is unbearable. 

Baby :

  • In this week fetus ears will shift from neck to the sides of the head and the neck is getting longer and the chin more prominent.
  • Distinctive facial features and finger prints are formed.
  • Fetus will start responding to the outer stimuli. When poked on the abdomen the baby tries to wriggle away.
  • By now, your baby's genitals have fully developed, still it is difficult to determine the sex of the fetus by utlrasonography.
  • The spleen will start producing red blood cells and the liver starts manufacturing bile.
  • As the thyroid glands are also matured till this week, baby will gradually start producing thyroid hormones too.
  • Fetus is now about 3.5 inches in length and 45 grams from tip to toe. 

Tips:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, and eat lots of fruit and vegetables to deal with constipation.
  • Do moderate exercise.

Me and my Baby at 13th week

This is the beginning of your 2nd trimester! We are glad to share some relevant pregnancy information with you !! 

Mom To Be:

  • Your baby has grown. You will now gain weight and nausea, vomiting are less.
  • In this stage your breast size will increase which is due to the development of mammary ducts which will help in producing the milk for your baby.
  • Your breast may have some secretion now.
  • You can apply suitable creams/ lotions to prevent future stretch marks. 

Baby :

  • Baby gets oxygen, nutrients from your placenta and also the waste disposal takes place through the placenta which is now developed.
  • Hormones progesterone and estrogen are also produced by the placenta, which help to maintain the pregnancy.
  • In this week the ankles and wrists are forming and also eyes have started to move towards their original position.
  • Till now largest part of the body of the fetus was its head, which is just beginning to change, the size of the head is now 1/3 of the body.
  • Emergence of distinctive fingerprints on baby's fingers has taken place.
  • The kidney and urinary tract are functioning properly & helps to excrete the amniotic fluid which fetus has been swallowing.
  • There is a soft, and fine covering of hair on the baby's body which is known as lanugo. 

Tips:

  • If possible take your partner along for check-ups.
  • Now your health care provider will start iron and calcium supplements.
  • Always keep a gap of at least 2 hours between iron tablets and calcium so that their absorption is better.

Me and my Baby at 12th week

"Think of stretch marks as pregnancy service stripes."

This is the last week of your first trimester. We are glad to share some relevant pregnancy information with you !! 

Mom To Be:

  • You'll feel more energetic for the next few weeks. The typical weight gain by now is from 1.5 to 5 pounds.
  • You may have also found that your skin is changing like- the darkening of the areola or irregular dark patches on face and neck in this week. These are called chloasma or mask of pregnancy and they will go in due course of time. 

Baby :

  • The development of the body parts is taking place regularly.
  • Also the chances of miscarriage are reduced after this week.
  • Brain continues to develop, and tiny fingernails and toe nails start forming.
  • The vocal cords have started developing.
  • Although after this week there is a rapid growth of body parts, it is still difficult to determine the sex of the fetus.
  • In this week fetus will develop many organs like external ears, reproductive organs and nervous system.
  • The intestines have grown so fast that they actually extend into the umbilical cord, but they will soon begin to move back into the abdomen.
  • The kidneys can now secrete urine.
  • There is progressive development of complicated reflexes in the baby such as sucking. 

Tips:

  • You may have noticed stretch marks. Most women may have them on their breasts and abdomen. Do not forget they usually fade after pregnancy.
  • Take appointment for ultrasonography as 11 to 13 weeks of pregnancy is best to see Nuchal Translucency in fetus.
  • Start practicing Kegel exercise with proper guidance of a well qualified trainer. It helps you before, during & after pregnancy.

Me and my Baby at 11th week

"A mother's joy begins when new life is stirring inside... when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time."

We are glad to share some relevant pregnancy information with you !! Your baby will now be known as a fetus till the pregnancy lasts. 

Mom To Be:

  • Take care of your skin as it has become oily and you might develop acne.
  • You may notice that your hair, fingernails, and toenails are growing faster.
  • You must have gained some weight now. The idol weight gain of the pregnancy is 11.33 to 15.84kg in the spell of 9 months.
  • The doctor will recommend different diet schedules for the underweight and overweight mother. 

Baby :

  • It's another big growth week.
  • In this week doctor can hear the fetal heartbeat with the help of doppler stethoscope.
  • Baby's reproductive organs will develop more in this week.
  • Skin of the fetus is still crystal clear but its bones have started hardening.
  • Size and number of blood vessels will increase in the placenta to promote fetus growth and nourishment. 

Tips:

  • Schedule a dentist appointment at least once in the pregnancy period. Brush and floss daily.
  • Travelling is safe for you as long as there are no pregnancy related complications indicated by your doctor.
  • Generally travelling in first 3 months of pregnancy is avoided due to prevalence of nausea and vomiting during this time.
