Mom To Be:

  • The size of the uterus is now like the grapefruit.
  • Still mother will not feel much of the baby movements but wearing loose clothes will give more comfort.
  • Mood swings are common in this stage with fatigue. These symptoms do not last for longer duration.

Baby :

  • The baby's organs will start getting mature , fetus is still small but behaves like a fully grown baby, movement of the arms and legs become prominent; baby can bend his/her elbows & knees.
  • All external organs will start working together & separation of the fingers & toes will occur with evanescence of the tail.
  • Simultaneously internal development will also occur.
  • Tooth buds start forming, and if it's having the male child then his testes will start developing the male hormone testosterone.
  • A bulge in the forehead can be seen which allows the brain development.
  • The size of the head is almost equal to the size of the body.

Tips:

  • Buy some maternity bras for you.
  • Do not stop your activities.
  • Consult your doctor what exercises you can do, like walking and swimming.

Me and my Baby at 9th week

"You are growing rounder. Hope you have got all the necessary investigations done by now viz. Blood counts, Bleeding time, Clotting time, ELISA, Blood group etc as advised."

Mom To Be:

  • In the 9th week the fetus will increase gradually and you will start to notice that your ring has become tight and your waistline is thickening but it won't be noticeable to others unless declared.
  • You have not put on much weight still do not worry, especially if you're having food aversions, cravings, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, or bloating.
  • Eat small meals, it will cause less gastric sensation.
  • Avoid spicy food so that heart burn is less. 

Baby :

  • The length of the fetus is 0.9 - 1.2 inches and weight merely equals 2g; from now on he/she will start acquiring weight.
  • The neck is further developed and the head of the fetus is more vertical.
  • You can see the moving baby in an ultrasound, though you can't feel this movement.
  • The eyelids are fully developed but fused shut, and they will open again during week 28.

Tips:

  • Eat plenty of foods which contain calcium such as cheese, sardines, and broccoli.
  • Avoid oily, stuffed and junk food.
  • If you are Rh negative, please consult your doctor. You will need a blood test named Coomb's test. But you don't have to worry, it is nothing serious.

Me and my Baby at 8th week

"You will now have to eat for two people, drink for two people, breathe for two people and think for two people. Get ready to do everything in life on the double."

Mom To Be:

  • Pumping of your heart will increase to 50% per minute with the increase in blood volume for your baby.
  • Have you become moody and do not like certain smells? Do not worry.
  • Do you feel pukish every time, and vomit frequently? Don't worry. Take medicines as prescribed by your doctor. 

Baby :

  • 8th  week is the important week of baby's growth.
  • The eyes of the fetus will be conspicuous as the colourant in the retina will be developing. There is conformation of ears and eyelid of the fetus.
  • The fingers & toes of the fetus are webbed, so fetus can even swim in the womb.
  • By now, the fetus genital buds will start appearing.
  • Till 12th week the intestines of fetus will increase and there is not enough space in the fetus abdomen, therefore it gets extended into the umbilical cord.

Tips:

  • Mother should start wearing supportive bra, which will give good support to the breast during pregnancy and also prevent from sagging.
  • Take milk at least two times.
  • Requirement of calcium, protein, iron and multivitamins is increasing. So take nutritious diet and supplements as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Increase intake of fresh fruits and green vegetables. Avoid travelling now as most miscarriages happen in this period.

As your pregnancy is propagating successfully, we are glad to share some relevant information which will give you a clear biological picture of your pregnancy status.

Mom To Be:

  • By now you are feeling the changes in your body however you are still not showing. The morning sickness may still be persisting.

Baby :

  • By now the umbilical cord has formed.
  • It is a channel with dual action- it will transport Oxygen and nourishment into your baby and take away waste products from your baby's body. It exists throughout the pregnancy.
  • The limb buds have appeared now and will be developed into hands & feet.
  • The following parts continue to grow: : heart, lungs, intestines, appendix, brain, spinal cord, nostrils, mouth, and eyes.

Tips:

  • It is suggested to not let your stomach get completely empty and therefore you must always carry some snacks with you .
  • Eat small frequent meals and to prevent a drop in blood sugar, eat some protein (eg. add cheese to crackers)
  • Following Blood tests must be done : Hb, RBC, TLC, DLC, Platelet Count, MCV, MCH, ABO, Rh factor, HbSAg, Blood Sugar, VDRL, Thyroid profile, Urine-regular and microscopic. If required, TORCH test for various infections like Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, HIV etc.

Vaccination

Hepatitis A, B, etc. if not taken before.

 

Me and my Baby at 6th week

"For the next nine months your body is a sacred temple and your womb will be the closely guarded doors protecting the little angel who will change your lives forever."

As you have stepped into pregnancy successfully, we are glad to share some relevant information and tips with you. Your baby is known as an embryo at this stage and is just like a tadpole with tail.

Mom To Be:

  • Talk to your doctor about any history of previous ectopic pregnancy or any surgery. Your doctor may recommend early ultra sonography to confirm that the current pregnancy is not ectopic.
  • Talk to your doctor about any history of asthma, high blood pressure and thyroid disorder, any genetic disorder history in family and any medication if you are taking.
  • Common pregnancy complaints will increase this week.
  • At this stage your body is adjusting to demands of pregnancy which results in fatigue in most of the pregnant women.
  • It’s possible that you lose weight because of morning sickness, have fuller legs and sore breasts.
  • The gynecologist will observe the changes in the size of your uterus during pelvic examination.
  • If ultrasonography is performed it suggests increase in uterine size too.

Baby :

  • Your baby's brain and nervous system are developing at a rapid pace.
  • The baby is still very small and shaped like a Tadpole.
  • The optic vesicles which will develop later on into eyes of the baby are developing on the sides of the head along with the passage ways which will develop into inner ear.
  • Right now the eyes, the limb buds, digestive system and the respiratory systems are in the process of formation.
  • Till 56 days the baby is very vulnerable and susceptible to anything that can affect normal growth.

Expected date of delivery :

  • To calculate the expected date of delivery, write down the first day of your last period, add 9 months and 7 days to it.

Tips:

  • Follow good prenatal habits such as eating healthy food, taking advised medicine and nutritional supplements timely.
  • You must not take any medicine without advise of your gynecologist and refrain from anything which may cause harm to the baby.
  • Make mint or coriander chutney and refrigerate it. Make sandwiches using it. This practice should be followed for at least 12 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Fix your appointment with your doctor. General physical examination viz, weight, height, BP, will be done. Various blood tests and vaccinations (for Hepatitis A,B, Influenza) are advised if required.

Me and my Baby at 5th week

"A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart till the day you die."

 Do the urine pregnancy test :

A pregnancy testing kit is available at any chemist shop. Read the instructions and follow carefully. To have accurate results the first morning urine sample should be used.

Tips for Mom To Be :

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat healthy and freshly prepared food.
  • Quit smoking, alcohol or any other addictions.
  • Keep yourself busy constructively and have a positive attitude.
  • Think about the changes baby will bring in your life both physically and socially. Prepare yourself accordingly.
  • Visit your gynecologist as soon as you get positive result for urine pregnancy test. For a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, it is advised to start prenatal care early and to keep up with the appointments. Your gynecologist may advise if necessary Blood HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) to confirm your pregnancy.
  • As soon as the doctor confirms pregnancy, you have to follow the pregnancy vaccination protocol as advised.
  • Start taking 0.4mg or 400 micrograms of Folic acid a day. Folic acid taken few months before conception has shown to reduce neural defects such as Spina Bifida.
  • Talk to your doctor about any history of diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma . Also discuss any other acute/chronic illnesses you are/were suffering from.
  • Talk to your doctor about any genetic disorders in your family.
  • Go for a dental check-up as infection of gums may cause a preterm baby. Maintain a good oral hygiene throughout your pregnancy.

Possible changes in early pregnancy:

The symptoms which may be noticed in this stage of early pregnancy are as follows:

  • Missed Period.
  • Mood Swings.
  • Aversion to food.
  • Nausea , Vomiting.
  • Bloating in abdomen.
  • Fatigue.
  • Increased frequency of urination.
  • Tenderness in breasts.
  • Increase in basal body temperature.
  • Constipation.

Development stage of the Baby:

Your baby is very tiny at this stage. The placenta (which will provide all the nourishment required for the baby in the next 9 months) and the amniotic sac (which will provide a warm and safe environment for the baby to move easily) are still forming.

It is too early for any changes at this stage and it is even difficult to distinguish from a pre-menstrual syndrome symptoms, so you are never sure if you have to expect your normal menstrual cycle or pregnancy unless you do a urine test around 1week after your due date. However most of the times the following Pre menstrual cycle symptoms will become worse than normal in case of pregnancy:

  • Mood Swings.
  • Aversion to food.
  • Bloating in abdomen.
  • Fatigue
  • Tenderness in breasts.
  • Increase in basal body temperature.
  • Constipation

Development stage of the Baby:

If the coitus happened at the time of ovulation (you can calculate the ovulation time through our conception calculator) then in high probability you will conceive and there will be fusion between the sperm and the ovum resulting in the formation of a zygote (fertilized egg), which will then start dividing many times to form an embryo.
